What is a QR CODE?
QR stands for Quick Response in English. It is a kind of two-dimensional symbology developed in 1994 by Denso Wave Company whose aim was to create symbols that can be easily interpreted by the scanning device. It allows you to encode Kanji / Kana, so it is very popular in Japan.
QR-Code is of great use in outdoor type advertising (banners, ads on buildings, vans, etc.). The code on such advertising contains (usually) the address of the advertiser's website and phone number and a brief description of services offered.

How does it work?
You take a photo of QR code and you do not have to write down the information of interest to you. Information capacity of such codes is large (variable), depending on application.
